Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) for RPF/RPSF 2023-24 is designed to provide educational support to the children and widows of former RPF/RPSF personnel pursuing higher technical and professional education. This initiative, funded by the National Defense Fund, is overseen by the Ministry of Railways. The scheme offers a total of 150 scholarships, providing selected male candidates with a monthly financial assistance of INR 2,500 and female candidates with INR 3,000.

Eligibility Criteria of Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme for UG Students (RPF/RPSF) 2023-24 :

To qualify for consideration, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a dependent ward of either ex-RPF/RPSF personnel or a widow.
  • Should be enrolled in a regular professional or technical degree program (e.g., B.E, B.Tech, MBBS, MCA, BCA, B.Pharma, B.Ed, BBS, etc.) at an institution recognized by Government Regulatory Bodies such as the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Medical Council of India (MCI), University Grants Commission (UGC), National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), etc. (Please note that only institutions/universities/colleges complying with All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) regulations will be considered.)
  • Must have attained a minimum of 60% marks or higher in the Minimum Educational Qualification (MEQ), which includes Class 12, diploma, or graduation.

Note – The scholarship is admissible for only two wards per family and should be ensured by the beneficiaries as well as by the concerned zonal Railways/RPSF.

Benefits of Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme for UG Students (RPF/RPSF) 2023-24 :

The scholarship provides financial assistance of INR 3,000 per month for girls and INR 2,500 per month for boys.
The scholarship is payable for the entire duration of the course, or up to a maximum of 5 years, whichever is earlier.

Note – The payment of the scholarship will be granted after approval of the DG/RPF as per the order of merit in each year.

For New Applicants:

  • Service certificate issued by the relevant offices of the serving personnel, applicable to category IV (Refer to Annexure II).
  • A copy of the Pension Payment Order (PPO), Discharge certificate/book for Categories I, II, and III.
  • Scanned copy of the mark sheet/grade card for the Minimum Educational Qualification (MEQ), i.e., Class 12/diploma/graduation (depending on the case).

For Renewal Applicants:

  • The most recent service certificate issued by the respective offices of the serving personnel for category IV (Refer to Annexure II).
  • Scanned copy of the previous class mark sheet/grade card or proof of advancement to the next class issued by the competent authority.

Selection Criteria

The candidates will be selected based on the fulfilment of eligibility criteria. If the number of applications exceeds the number of available scholarships, the order of preference for allotment of scholarships will be as under –

Category 1:-
Wards/widows of ex-RPF/RPSF personnel who died in harness due to causes attributed to encounters with terrorists or with criminals while protecting railway property, passengers, and passenger areas or those who died during election work

Category 2:-
Wards/Widows of ex-RPF/RPSF personnel who died while in service

Category 3:-
Wards of ex-RPF/RPSF (retired) personnel

Category 4:-
Wards of serving RPF/RPSF personnel

Terms and Conditions:

  • The scholarship program is applicable for a duration ranging from one to five years, depending on the length of the course.
  • Fifty percent of the scholarships are specifically reserved for female candidates. In the event of any shortage in new applications, the scholarship allocation will not be adjusted based on gender.
  • Selected students will receive their scholarship funds directly in their bank accounts through the Public Finance Management System (PFMS) using the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism.
  • The Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) can be utilized for one course only.
  • If, at any subsequent date, it is discovered that a student provided inaccurate information in their application, all remaining scholarship amounts will be forfeited. Additionally, no future applications from ex/serving RPF/widows will be considered.
  • Scholarship renewal is not applicable for students who do not successfully complete the current academic year or discontinue their enrolled course.
